Well That Was A Day Wasted…

Okay, maybe not completely.  But now, as I get ready for bed, I’m pretty much where I was at the start of the day, as far as this site is concerned.

For some reason (I’m sure there’s a logical one, but I’m too tired to explore it) over the past couple days, I’ll notice my blog will be a blank page, save for a 500 Internal Server Error.  Yet, I could access the backend.  But anything on the front page, or any page, was a no go.  So I upgraded to WordPress 2.6.1.  I’m glad I didn’t think that would eliminate the message because it didn’t.  But I did deactivate some plugins and that worked.  Or the 500 Internal Server Error gave up on me and let me access my site again at that very moment when I refreshed the page.  Oh, and I modified the site for PHP5.  Maybe that fixed it.  I’ll know soon enough.

Then, I downloaded and installed WicketPixie, a WordPress theme designed by Chris Pirillo of Lockergnome, an e-newsletter writer and blogger that I’ve been following for about ten years now, more or less.  And I really like it.  And I would be using it right this minute, but the menu bar at the top was slightly off and I could not get the sources page to load.  I’m not giving up on it, but I want to fool around with it before I go live.

It never fails.  When I do not have the time to devote to something, that’s when I spend a ton of time doing just that.

In any case, I’m going to bed.  Maybe I’ll do some reading.  While work is kicking my butt and eating up any free time I may have during the day, I can at least record some thoughts in the car for Marvel Noise.  Episode 45 was released last week.

And I can be found on 11 O’Clock Comics with Vince, Chris, and Jason.  Episode 17 seems to be well received.

This and That

Published by David under Art, Comic Books, Marvel Noise, Podcasts, Us

To say I’ve been lax in getting updates out is an understatement.  I’ve been virtually nonexistent on FriendFeed and have posted less on the forums I frequent.

However, on the plus side, I’ve gotten a little bit more reading done.  Batman: Under The Hood (volumes one and two), the 20th Anniversary Edition of Batman: The Killing Joke, and The Seven Soldiers of Victory (read volumes one and two, almost done with three, and can’t wait to get into four).  Also, sitting next to me is X-Men: Supernovas, the oversize hardcover that is just beautiful to look at.

But reading isn’t all I’ve been doing.  There have also been a couple podcasts with my name attached to them.  After taking a week off, Marvel Noise is back with episode 41.  Of course, 11 O’Clock Comics released its eleventh episode last week.  I’ve taken Derek Coward up on his offer and there is a new addition to The ReaderFeed with episode 19 - Mage: The Hero Discussed recently had the introductory show published.  And something that’s near and dear to me - and seems to be recieving positive comments - is the first episode debuting under the Comic Book Noise Presents… banner, Driving With The Prices, which is just that: me and Renee in the car having a conversation.

How’d that happen?  Well, we were in the car and I had my recorder.  She had just finished reading The Killing Joke and wanted to talk about it.  Who am I to argue?  If my wife wants to chat comics, you best believe that’s what we’re gonna do.

I hope to update soon, but you know what they say about hope…

Marvel Noise Notes

Published by David under Comic Books, Marvel Noise, Podcasts

As mentioned in today’s episode (37), the forum for Marvel Noise has a new home. Yet, not so new since the URL should be familiar to some. After 11 O’Clock Comics brought http://bullpenbulletinspodcast.com out of moth balls, it was decided that since a lot of listeners of Marvel Noise listened to Bullpen Bulletins and a grand ol’ time was had on the forum, that it makes sense to bring the show back home, so to speak.

Speaking of Marvel Noise 37, here are the show notes:

Wolverine: Dangerous GamesThis episode is in a time warp! It’s night, it’s morning, it’s night in the car…. Oy. After a sloppy rundown of the week’s new releases we get to the good stuff: Steve calls in to tell us about a Gary Frank-penciled Sabretooth (?!?) and a Marvel/DC crossover, Adam Unbounds 2007’s Sub-Mariner, Carlos leaves a voicemail in regards to New Avengers #41, Giant-SizeIncredible Hulk 316 Astonishing X-Men #1, and Nova #13; and Pat gets us up to speed on Secret Invasion tie-ins Ms. Marvel #27, Incredible Hercules #116, and New Avengers #41 all while giving his thoughts on what tie-ins are worth your while.

All this plus Marvel Tales! And a phone call from… Bob?!?!

Comics mentioned in this episode include Wolverine: Dangerous Games, Amazing Spider-Man, Cable, Invincible Iron Man, Criminal, Secret Invasion, Thor, Ultimate Origins, and Young X-Men.

Invincible Iron Man 1We’re short and sweet this week. Okay, the sweet may be my exaggeration, but this is a shorter episode than you’re used to. Because Backwards Dave was kind enough to send in a Bring ‘em Back and Carlos called in with comments on New Avengers #40, you areX-Factor: The Quick and the Dead rewarded with my ramblings for a few minutes. Somehow, that doesn’t seem fair…

Comics mentioned this week include Invincible Iron Man, X-Factor: The Quick and the Dead, Young X-Men, Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas, Avengers/Invaders, Logan, Mighty Avengers, and Secret Invasion.
